27 and counting…

The title of Prince’s twenty-seventh studio album was released today, 20Ten will be the second album by the purple-one to be released through the press starting with Het Nieuwsblad in Belgium on July 10th and then in the German Rolling Stone on July 22nd with expected released across the rest of Europe to follow. There’s even unconfirmed reports that Prince has decided to visit his old enemies at Warner Bros. to strike a distribution deal to release the album in the States.

At 52, and with twenty-seven studio albums, numerous digital releases, one live album and a few compilations it’s amazing to think about what Prince can write next! It also begs the question as to what exactly 20Ten will sound like; his last release LotusFlow3r/MPLSound wasn’t too much of a let down but judging by the leaked Hot Summer track earlier this month, it doesn’t really leave a lot to be desired.

There’s no denying that Prince is one of the most talented musicians of this century and last, but there’s also no denying the fact that his best works were born from the 80s when he wasn’t constrained by religion or clouded by political activism. His music was…him. I look forward to hearing it though, it’ll be interesting to see what direction he’s taken this album in. One thing I like about Prince, is that you never know what you’ll get.

Peace out people!

Well in all honesty you’re not missing out on much. It sounds very dated and you can tell that he’s struggled to come up with enough material ‘worthy’ (and I use the term loosely) for an album release, 6/10.
